I found your web site fantastic if only because I have a great yearning and nostalgia for Den Haag (probably miss my youth!). I am a Haagenaar first and foremost (grew up at 185 Noorderbeekstraat until I was 9 and we moved to Canada) but unfortunately my Dutch is not adequate to write so I will use English. You might appreciate the attached reproduction of a promotional countercard featuring my late Opa, Nico J. Marks (seated on the right). My ther's father, Opa passed away in 1960 a few years into retirement. His son (my father, also Nico J. Marks) is still alive and well and in his mid 80's. He lives in Hamilton, Ontario with his wife Paulina (my mom). I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada...the geographic centre of Canada. I remember my Opa being in the neighborhood with the wagon and picking me up when I as 5 or 6 and letting me "control" the horse reins. I also remember feeding the horses with suiker blokjes by hand. The horses were absolutely huge but very kind and gentle, and I remember my small child's hand disappearing completely between their big black lips, as hey sucked the sugar cubes.
